Then I realized that I must have been recalling a pre-recycling sidewalk (I've been lurching up Broadway in the cold gray dawn for longer than I realize, I guess); these days the homeless pick up empties for a 5-cent depsosit. That said, perhaps there should be empties on the sidewalk b/c the book is set in the eighties.... W. ------------------- when i returned from the studio yesterday, before checking my e mail, i picked up a newspaper travel supplement and read... favourite city if i have to be in the city, then london or toronto. toronto because nobody was forced to go there - everybody seems to be happy because they weren`t taken there as a result of slavery or oppression. it makes a huge difference to see cheerful people. it also has the best restaurants of almost everywhere.... ---------------- talking of computer recording problems...can't remember whether i said but at the start of mixing, the weather was so humid/hot here that that the rubber capstan to the ampex tape drive started to melt/disintegrate/just go liquid - must have been oldspec rubber?....panic stations as bits of rubber started to get pasted onto the tape... but we managed to get another outer rubber case onto the old capstan centre.....here`s to mechanical engineering... JM -------------------- Soundscan has brought it to our attention that the following title(s)has not been registered with them. The Henry's Desert Cure Please take the time to fill out the attached form and email or fax it in to them. -------------------------------- The jam portion is still under construction. The point of having the Campbells as the house/backup band is to make certain, among other things, that the show keeps moving and that we have a solid rhythm section behind the familiar jam type material, ie: Chicken Shack for Bob Taillefer, Long Black Veil for Harry Manx, a minor blues, etc. The Campbells will kick off the jam with a couple of numbers, then invite up the other players. You, Manx, Taillefer et al would have the Campbells' rhythm section back you, or you can do a couple of solo numbers or bring up a rhythm guitar or whatever. We want to keep this thing moving so we prefer not to be switching rhythm sections every two numbers. Hence the Campbells. I don't want to micro-manage this thing, but at the same time it needs some thought. David L. would prefer to do something with Frisell within the jam show--without the Campbells as backup. He says that after 40 years, his ears can't take the rock and roll volumes (translation: I've heard the Campbells and I would prefer to do something less hysterical.) So right now, the plan is to have David come on with Frisell and Leisz and maybe Frisell's bass/drums, and do 3-5 numbers together toward the end of the jam, then have the Campbells come back in and they lead some socko finale that would include everyone. We have a wide variety of styles here, which should make the event special, but the trick is coordinating it. Suggestions? ---------------- nope --------------- ohmigawd !!!! what a line up the weekend before you, there is neko case , doctor john and the nevillebrothers wow and then there is you and mister lindley and bill frizzell?? but i didn't see mary margaret anywhere a different stage? not to mention Kelly joe cigarette extinguisher phelps himself!!!! geeeeeez louise I am gonna have to close the cafe and head east.... holy bluesfest batman ~~~ meem ----------------------------- Don Rooke is OK for the 12th (don@thehenrys.ca). I will try to go there the next time I'll be in Genoa. Ciao. Nino -------------------------- The film was extremely well received. Our screening sold out and we got a five minute standing ovation- very wild experience after working on the film for six years in a little room with one or two other people, and never really knowing what anyone else in the world would think or if they would even be interested. Thank you for asking. This Saturday we have an encore screening for the Best of the Fest, which was nice-- to be asked to be included in. So far so good. I want to submit to the Toronto Film Festival for the fall. We'll see what happens. Best ,L ------------------ Monahan called back and said "$1500." What about $1,750? The first volume just came out and it seems I want to have a copy in my hot little hands before I immerse myself once again. Yes, procrastination takes many forms. . .my publisher will soon start cajoling and threatening. For me the ultimate speakers are probably Tannoy Westminster Royals, fully horn loaded, the size of fridges, and more expensive than your average car, but I don't expect to ever own a pair of those. ----------------- that's him alright! By the way, if CSN&Y ultimately do not give us permission to use "Find the Cost of Freedom", can I hire you to write music for those two small sections? About one minute and two minutes? You should tell yinka that your father is the late king of Canada who got caught in a shoot-out with the Mounties and died without a will and that you'll send her a check for $2 million if she orders 20 copies of Desert Cure for a thousand bucks apiece. That's what I'd do. ----------- Thank you for creating an account with Alibris. Gary ----------------- if you pay 5 euro than all are o.k. thanks Regards Andreas ----------------- We'll go back to the city almost immediately-I canceled going to the Kerrville Folk Festival, to get this shit done and go back to the city and play a couple of showcases. Brother Jon is renting a fancy loft to set up headquarters, I think, and we'll meet as many people there as we can. We were invited to go play a song apiece in the trailer of Sydney Pollack, and all the producers and Sean were there, every body eating steak. They all put their utensils down when I started playing this tune called Morning Boy that Sean kept requesting about my older and deceased brother who OD'd in San Francisco this year. The producer's assistant came by Sean's trailer and got our records. So maybe some good stuff comes out of all this, seems like something will, we'll see.. Gonna watch the replay of the pristine Roy Jones gettting knocked out last week. Wish this place would cool the fuck down....we'll talk soon. F. -------------------
